You mean the arm that the cable connects to.

If so most have about 1" of play dude

No, well yes sort of, I men the shaft that the arm is attached to. I know the arm has movement but the shaft shouldn't.

Anyway, i've found the causes I think. It's a combination of things, a lisght oil leak from the crank shaft oil seal, the flywheel fase needs simmings and the bushes on the arm are knackered.

Right, finally sorted!

I've had the flywheel skimmed, replaced the crank shaft oil seal and replaced the nylon bushes that the clutch release arm sits in and the difference is fantastic!!

It feels like a new car, clutch is silky smooth and light as a feather!

Good work

Glad you solved the problem. How much did that cost by the way?

Yes mate, stripped it last Friday. Followed the guide in the FAQ section, fairly straight forward. Then put it back together Wednesday evening. It's so much nicer to drive now!

I've had a similar problem on the S2 after getting a single mass flywheel and new clutch fitted 2 years ago, it's very slight but just enough to make me kick myself for not skimming the FW...

LUK are reasonable make, I have one on the S2, it's currently holding 150% of the power of the stock car and will take more, it's an OE VAG clutch and is made for them by LUK so they are an OE supplier (shame as they used to be made by Sachs and were bullet proof). Sachs are a better brand for sure but cost more too.

Glad you've solved the issue, I won't be fitting another clutch in the future (to a high performance car anyway) without skimming the FW at the same time... of course, if a few kg just happen to get removed at the same time then who am I to complain Big grin

Is the GTI6 FW a single mass or dual mass FW?

Getting a bit of a judder through the clutch when warm and reversing, think it may be a similar issue?
