Where is the MAP sensor?

I have looked in the haynes and it says it is in the engine compartment attached with a bracket to the bulkhead.

Will I be able to see it if I look in engine bay or do I need to remove anything?

Car is an XSi 2.0 Ph 2

Not sure on your car but given it stands for

"Manifold Absolute Pressure"

I would speculate that its on the inlet manifold Thumbs up

if its like the 6 inlet it will be a yellow plug by the round throttle cable bracket. Scrap that look in the FAQs under sensor locations..

on the 16v XSi and 16v 1.8 XS plastic inlets they're on the underneath just above the starter motor, one 10mm bolt Smile

Haynes is correct that they're on the bulkhead for the 8 valve!

You'd need to read a section a few pages further on for the 16v engine.

Ok, I have looked at the FAQ on sensor postions and my engine bay looks different. Obviously a gti-6 photo, not an XSi.

The MAP sensor isn't on the top as shown. I have had a look around but still can't see it.

Under the inlet manifold? Those 4 large tubes on the top of the engine?
*sorry, am not an experienced mechanic, pretty new to all this*

That's quite a job isn't it to get underneath it?

Swapped it last night.
Absolute nightmare of a job.

It was actually attached to the underside of the inlet manifold which meant I had to turn it completely around to get to the MAP.

Had to remove the injector rail etc to do this but eventually got it swapped.

Thanks for help.

Does anyone know if I should do anything to car now I have installed the new part?

Do I just do an ECU reset and I'm done or is there a correct thing to do once changing this part?

looked like he had missed my post that's all LOL

I know they come off without removing the manifold as I was at bucklands one day at 5.30 getting a map sensor for the V6 and they wanted to shut the gate Laugh my ass off

On the XSi it is mounted underneath the inlet manifold.
On the GTi-6, it is located onto of the the throttle body.

Trust me, there was no way to the MAP sensor on my XSi other than lifting the inlet manifold to get to it underneath it.

Incorrect. The GTi-6 MAP sensor is on the top of the inlet manifold, on the right as you look at it from the front of the car.

Yeah, I knew it was on the top but wasn't sure if it was on top of the inlet manifold or throttle body.
I have only seen its location on the Sensors Location FAQ....it is in a different position on the XSi.

They obviously didn't think about people wanting to replace it when the XSi was made so they hid it underneath the inlet manifold, correcting it with GTi-6 by placing on top.
Crap bloody XSi.

lol way to fiddly, would prefer to spend a bit of time taking off manifold than try and attempt that and end up dropping parts into engine bay
Even when it was still light outside it was pitch black under the manifold and too far under.

Thanks though, if I ever need to do it again (hopefully not!) will keep that in mind Happy
