Noticed it today... loud sort of tapping/knocking noise over the sound of the revving engine. Gets faster and more apparent when the engine is revved.

Tapping lifters or bent valves likely???? Erm?

and... is it safe to drive in this state? (I suppose it depends on what is going on under the bonnet)

I've already messaged Carl... but it's sounding like I need to take it to him. I do have a video on my phone, but I'm having trouble finding my lead to upload it Crazy

Could be so many things; when mine was making a weird tapping noise I got Carl to collect it to be on the safe side. Turned out to be a loose belt and slipped cam pulley Shock

doesn't feel too bad I suppose. Maybe a slight loss of compression.

As for the sparkplug, possible I suppose.. as said, only noticed it today on way back from Ludlow. Moved house yet again, only been in a couple of weeks if that so Haven't had a lot of time to do anything car related. But I shall inspect, need some new Iridium's anyway so maybe worth a go Dunno

Got my old man to have a quick look at it... he reckons noisy lifters, but my fathr in law reckons bent valves or piston ring etc... but really do need Carl's overseeing eye.

"Tapper" is the phrase used for describing that sewing machine tapping noise that cars with bent valves suffer from.

it's ok buddy Thumbs up

just an update guys I've tried adding some ZX1 extralube into my oil... and all it's done is quiet it down slightly. I figured it could do NO harm whatsoever and was worth a go. It's made a slight difference by making it quieter and meaning now that the oil is about as good as it can be.... but it still taps.

Back to the drawing board.... Hmm

Yes

was curious one evening and removed the coil packs and examined the spark plugs to find that all but one of them were barely finger tight. I haven't done a sparkplug service since owning it, but it has had a Peugeot service so I'm guessing they either didn't tighten them enough, or didn't replace them...

Anyhoo... literally being able to remove the plugs (with normal finger strength) and noticed one of them was completely caked in oil about
