I'm slowly doing the bits I need for my 205 gti6 conversion, and a key part of this is the rallye Aux belt set up to do away with the aircon pump.

Chris306 kindly sorted me out with the parts I need for a good price....


So all I need to know now is where it all goesUnsure. I've searched but cannot find anything on how to fit it all, so hopefully somene can point me in the right direction. Perhaps in laymans terms as well to help people that have even less of an idea what they are doing! If that's possible!LOL

Cheers for the picture Tom...


I didn't realise I had to get rid of the auto tentioner. Does the belt just follow the old route then, as it looks like it wont apply much pressure to the alternator roller that way.

I pic of the finished article would be brilliant if anyone has one.

I could really do with some help on this matter too... Mines coming tues and still haven't figured it out...
I thought the idler sat slot closer to the alternator pulley, but if mounted to the holes pointed out in the pic above it would sit real low?

You will have to use a shorter belt, it is 1163mm long instead of the one you have on there now which is 1605mm long. Yes

This looks different to Chris' set up, and I'm just wondering which would be best. Any pics in the haynes manual of it all fitted together?

the pic i put up is the correct way, its only missing the pas pump and the alternator mate.

the triangle bit once youve removed the idler, is where the bit with adjustment goes, the long allen bolt goes in from the top to adjust this, you un bolt the auto tensioner, then the 2 holes is how you bolt on the idler, as pictured in the photo i stuck up.

That's brilliant. Thanks for that but just one more thing...the tensioner has a hole available. Shouldn't there be a bolt in there in order for it to act as a pivot?

Yeah there is a bolt missing from that picture, The hole for it is just behind the bracket.

Holy thread ressurection batman! But I need some advice relating to this please Smile

The belt on my 6 has become loose and popped off the crank pulley. Now I have found this thread I know what bit's I need to 'tweak' to get it back together (My 6 has the Rallye Aux belt setup BTW).

The question I have is...What size is the bolt holding on the adjusting tensioner? I'm limited with tools at my house and want to make sure I have everything (if I need to borrow) to get it back on the road. It's too dark and wet tonight to see or do it, so I will be attempting it in the morning when it's light.

I'm guessing it looks like a 13mm from the picture and that I would need to loosen it, then make the adjustment, then tighten it yes?

Yep two 13mm bolts to loosen off on the upper tensioner then unscrew the allen bolt in the top until all the tension is gone on the belt, swap belts, tension back up with the allen bolt and do the two 13mm bolts back up. Done.

Great thanks Niall. The belt is currently in my house, I'll fit it first thing. It's been getting looser all the time, to the point where the PAS struggles unless I rev it (I am a bit Uber lazy). The Aux belt fully coming off has forced the issue of fixing it somewhat! Only thing is all my tools are at my parents house (only a few miles away).

I think I have an allen kit, annoyingly I only have a 14mm spanner here and a pair of adjustable pliers.

Fingers crossed they will be enough to get it on and adjusted in the morning, otherwise I'll risk the few miles to my parents house. Hopefully the battery will last that far if it comes to that.
