I thought my car was on fire. Got in started up and a small amount of black smoke came out of the plastic surrounding the steering column. I turned it off straight away. My indicator relay has been going mental on its own so could that be it? Its still working.... I have not investigated yet but thought I would see if you had any ideas first.

This happened in mine a few weeks ago. As soon as I switched the ignition on, the relay went mad and then a little bit of smoke came out. Quickly turned the ignition off and when I apprehensively turned it back on it was back to normal. Haven't got round to looking at it yet. Roll eyes

Mine did that, the indicator stalk caught fire, well the arcing caused part of the insides of the stalk to melt and release smoke any way, it's more than likely what's causing the relay to tick madly. Mine was fooked afterwards, needed a new stalk to fix it.

Mine did on the motorway, I pooped myself as I had visions of the car going upRazz

Common problem this, the stalk fails electrically, and then makes the relay keep coming in and going out. The rapidness of this causes both the relay and the stalk to completely fail shortly afterwards. Yes
