Hi all, iv done a search but no joy.
im looking at getting a set of 285h cams and was wondering if anyone has done or knows anyone that knows what there doing when it comes to making the cut out deeper.
does anyone know how much meat needs to be removed?

That's a bit like asking how long is a piece of string. You haven't said how lift @ TDC the 285 cam has. For example, lets say it has 0.080" lift @ TDC. Given the acceptable safe limit for an RS engine is approx. 0.055", you'd need to take a minimum of 0.025". If I was I doing it, I'd take out 0.040" minimum and deck the block to make up for the loss in compression.

you can use the 285h cams without needing to pocket the pistons

if your car has had a head skim though it may be worth checking the valve clearances for piece of mind
