Hi all

Got a 2.0 16v cab. Ive noticed that recently the car is difficult to start in the morning, it mis fires for 10 seconds, then clears its throat, so to speak.

Also, in the morning, Ive noticed that the pressure within the rad is incredible, open it up and it blasts your face off.

Ive replaced the radcap with a metal one from GSKF, so not sure if its the right type.

Car doesnt burn oil, water and there's no mayo in the oil cap, but saying all this, Ive just recently rebuilt it, and it has new oil, water, etc etc.

So, any guides on how to replace your head gasket ?? Did a search, cant seem to find much.

Cheers

If there is excessive pressure in the radiator then you could get an exhaust gas test done which will tell you if gases are leaking into the cooling system. Is it using water and overheating?

No, doesnt over heat / or use water. However, I brought it 4 weeks ago without any front end and have slowly been building it.

I had to replace lots of the bits, rad, slam panel etc etc, so not sure if its due to the wrong radiator cap, or bleeding it wrong.

The thing which worries me is the mis fire on startup, as Ive had this with turbo supra's before and is a true indication of a HG going.

The old rad cap was plastic, the new one IVe got is metal.

The car doesnt over heat, fans come on around 90, and for the short periods IVe run it, doesnt white smoke, or mayo in oil.

How easy is the HG on this ?? By the looks of it, the exhaust manifold looks a pig to get too.

Nope, your engine will have a little cast exhaust manifold (unless it's been swapped for an J4RS manifold). It is apparently a massive pain in the arse on a GTi-6 with the 4 branch manifold. Yes

Should all be in the 306 Haynes manual. It doesn't cover the GTi-6 engine but it does cover yours. Yes
