Been slightly concerned recently about the low mpg i've been getting and thelean exhaust smell.

Basically i'm getting around 24mpg under any kind of driving. I know it's a 13 year old engine, but it was rebuilt 20k miles ago.

Done some basic servicing so far, but doesn't seem to have made a difference:

Oil change + new filter
New fuel filter
Checked for loose plugs, none
Checked for oil/petrol leaks, none

I've noticed there's what seems to be a universal cone filter fitted with no airbox, and a 3.5" or so cat-back system. There's a slight crack in the flange on the front of the cat, but i can't see it taking 5mpg off me.

Last full tank did me 280miles or so, driving VERY conservatively.

Anything else i should check for?
