Hi all, Ive fitted a new camshaft to my 2.0 8v engine and when i reassembled everything i noticed that the cam pulley was sitting further out from the head than normal so I gave it a little tap with a rubber hammer and it moved to where it should be. Is this normal for the cam not to have something stopping it from moving from side to side? I suppose it could be called 'end float', should it have some sort of thrust washers or something?
What could cause this to happen?
please help Confused

The 2.0 8v has shoulder location on No.1 bearing cap (flywheel end), some older cam castings used fork location at No.5 cap (timing belt end), asper the early 1.6/1.9 heads. take the cam cover back off and have a look.
