I am about to get the whole cambelt kit and water pump for the 306 1.9TD.

What I wish to ask is that is what cambelt is it best to go for. Prices seem to be around

for the 306 TD I'd go to GSF and ask for the INA kit, far cheaper than buying a belt and tensioner on their own.

there is a spring tensioner of sorts, an it can be fiddly as buggery if you haven't done one before, Haynes manual covers them damn well though.

I'd also get the water pump from them at the same time for about

I have a GSF on my doorstep, and like yourself (I assume) I'm quite well known there LOL. It seems I made a typo. I meant

They're about that from Peugeot. But considering I'm not quite sure on the history of the car (as is not Pete regarding the cambelt (bar the fact that it's due now) I feel it's a good idea to change it anyway.

Might be worth doing the crank and cam oil seals if they are leaking as thats what knackared the last cambelt on mine and made it skip teeth.

Well, my timing kit came through, so I may be tackling it this week some time weather pending (joys of no garage to work in).

Still trying to figure out which tensioner I have. Some claim I can use an 8mm drill bit to hold it in, others claim (well, a guy from Repairgeots) reckon that the spring won't fall off when the tensioner comes off.

Time to have another read of Haynes (mine says to make a plate in order to hold the tensioner in).

I've only ever come across the one type of tensioner on these and it is sprung, depending on how much grease there is they may well fall out of the hole LOL

The plate makes it easier, if you can get it in there, never used one though I just push it in the hole and slide the tensioner on.

there's nowhere for an 8mm bit to go in the tensioner to lock it, but there is an 8mm square to get the tension right (it is sprung but often not enough)
