Hello from Thailand.

I'm searching an info (more specificly any problem or side effect) on putting GTi6 manifold (together with injectors and butterfly valve) on a XU10J4R engine.

I did go through the topics and FAQ, but I found only one comment that the low-rev may go crazy.

It was actually done in Thailand as well.
XU10J4R (called 406-D8 engine in Thailand) was put in 405 body, with XU10J4RS manifold, header and cams.
He got 150 hp atw.
You can see some photos here.

I did talk to the owner and he said that..
on the low-rev (or idle), sometime the rev just jump up without warning, especially if temperature in not up to operating condition yet.

So, he warned me if I want to put this manifold on my 306 cab (just put XU10J4R with AL4 in; replaced original XU10J2 with 4HP14). I might face the same problem; but it will worse because mine is auto-transmission which can't put the clutch to cut off engine if it goes crazy.
He thinks the (old) ECU can't handle the new setup in some condition, probably.

Are you facing this problem or any other side effects which I should be careful about?

Any ideas to prevent that low-rev crazy?

Seem like your guys have everything just fine.

After discussion a bit more with mechanic who install this manifold, it seems like the problem is related to A/C unit, but not the A/C fault.
When idle and A/C kick in, the (J4R) ECU try to compensate the load via idle step-motor (which is now (J4RS). Some way, some how, makes the rev go up and up - 2k, 3k, 4k. Engine was shutdown, then re-started, and everything came back to normal until A/C kick in again.

I don't know, may be in cold-weather, your guys may not use much A/C, but in Thailand, it is a norm that A/C on everytimes engine runs. It is so hot here.

On mine, standard idle is about 950 rpm, but with the aircon on it goes up to about 1150. I'm not sure what is making your engine speed up so much, but try giving the throttle a quick press and see if the revs start to drop again afterwards.

Thanks for hint.

I'm putting XU10J4R with AL4 in my 306 cabriolet, replacing original phase-1 XU10J2 / 4HP14.
(I'm too lazy for clutching in the BKK traffic)

Already swap the cams with GTi6.
And plan to see its performance for a while (and also dyno it), prior to change to GTi6 manifold.
Not asking much, only top end at 200 km/hr will be enough (Note the cab body is pretty heavy; probably 100 kg higher than 3-door).

(Actually, I want to put GTi6 header as well, but mechanic said it won't fit with AL4. Not sure, what he means - the AL4 body or the cables that obstruct)

I have the XU10J4R engine standard in my cab.
my question is, can i fit the 6speed gearbox of the gti-6 on my cabriolet?

and for your power a/c problem maybe u can fit one of these capacitators onto your a/c for extra power. maybe u won't have the rev problems anymore. I know it's normally used for soundssystems, but it might just work. Smile

please try and respond on my question 2, tnx.
