The car was then moved to our garage for stripping. After no time at all, the interior was out as well as some of the body panels

Then, the sunroof was sorted. Here was how it looked before:

Shocking! The filler was removed as well as a the metal panel and looked like this

We just got a replacement full sunroof with mechanism for

Nice - have had a few Mazda's myself - top motors! Have had a couple of 323F's (pop up headlights), import MX3 - lovely cars to drive and very reliable - don't know if it's the part Ford ownership but a lot of parts from different Mazda models fit each other - modular construction.

not sure, but you might be thinking of the Daihatsu Charade GTTi which definately had that. A cousin of mine is actually doing the same sort of project on two of them which should be fun as well.

There's one in decent condition on eGay at the mo. Our alloys are different and we are changing the rear spoiler to a set like this:

except colour coded without the gash rear bumper.

Its been ages since I updated this project thread, work has slowed down but had it out this weekend so though I should dig the thread up.

Firstly, replaced the door that had the window smashed when we bought it. Was fairly cheap from a chap who rallyed them years ago

And a pic of all the parts we accumulated from various sources:

Goodridge braided hoses
Galant disks
Superflex bushes for front and rear ARB including droplinks
RX7 FD3S fuel pump
Rear disks
New balljoints and track rod ends
8 wheel bearings and oil seals
MX3 Calipers
Reconditioned rear calipers
Original stickers from Mazda. Didnt need them now but had to get them!
Caliper rebuild kit for MX3 calipers
Various bits from Mazda inc nuts, bolts and front drop link bars

Most importantly, the Group N ECU in the top right corner which removes the boost cut the car original ECU induces at 10psi, to allow us to run a safe boost of about 12-14psi. A freshly refurbed turbo was also purchased as well.

I then started replacing the rusted metal pieces with sheet metal using a welder for the first time. It was a good learning curve and a few days later, all the rust bits had been cut out and replaced. The car was then undersealed using Dinitrol 3629 Cavity Wax and Dinitrol 4941 which is used on military vehicles. Some after pics:

The last picture shows my welding on the bottom left part of the arch, next to the bumper bracket. Its a bit rough but is covered by the bumper completely.

All the wheel bearings were replaced, silly design means that when you change the discs, you have to replace the wheel bearings. Finished pic:

And the car was removed from the garage and brakes fitted and bled. The calipers are working fine and the pedal feels nice and firm.

A pic of how the car stands now, we have new wings but they haven't been fitted as we don't want to damage them. My idiot brother got overspray on the front wheel whilst painting the ARB for his Cupra R so it looks pink in the pictures.

Still loads of work needed including rebuilding the engine, doing the HG, cambelt, FMIC fitting etc, sorting out the suspension including shocks, springs, top mounts etc and finally all the finishing with bodywork and full respray in black. Probs another years worth of work lol

Coming along nicely.
