Spent some time tinkering with the car last night. Still waiting for my battery box from rallydesign, but thought I would get the prep work done, so when its here, can fit the new battery.

First up is to change the connectors at the battery end as standard terminals dont fit the race battery..

I didnt have any crimpers, so thought these would do the job..

Next on my list was to relocate my cut off switch, and wire in the pull cable. Also want to remove some wiring from back of fuse box. Kicking myself that I didnt spent the time to do this while the dash was out Cry

Out comes the seat. Done this so many times, only take a minute.. Makes it easier for working around the dash, can lie down in the footwell.

All of the wiper gubbins removed so I can get to the hole in the bulkhead.

And then cable routed through and where I am at with the pull cable. Still needs a fair bit of work on this..

Argh! It hurts my eyes when people don't use the proper tool for terminals!

Lucky you weren't there to see me with a big set of side cutters doing mine then!

Chris, get yourself some heatshrink. That electrical tape will come off when it gets warm inside the car Yes

Yeah they'll be absolutely fine as long as they're on properly and don't pull off. It's about £30 for the proper tool, sod that for doing one car!

It was tight enough so when I pulled on it didnt seem to move any. The wiring will be fixed in place, as will the battery so should be fine IMO. And yeah, sod paying that to do 2 connectors Laugh

My tool collection has come on in leaps and bounds since owning this car (I had none before), but as Im in the process of trying to get a house, and keep the six, spending £30 on a tool I may never need again seems silly, even for me Laugh

They work loose if you dont have the proper connection, solder and a blow torch is better than squashing them with pliers if the proper crimper is unavailable. The correct tool is more like £95 by the way, you cant do 35mm terminals with a ratchet hand crimper (I think 16mm is the biggest they do from memory)

Should of just asked on here first Roll eyes

I asked one of the engineering guys at work, they have a crimper but not one big enough for those lugs. He then told me to use pliers/grips...It shouldnt work itself loose as will all be secured down, but will probably get it redone if I can find someone with the proper tools Smile

We use them for welding cable and can do up to 195mm crimps with my one, never done bigger than a 90mm one myself though. Any big electrical or motor rewind firm will have a pair, I'm sure they would do it for you for next to nothing as its about five seconds work.

Few more bits and bobs done..

Fitted the pull cord to the scuttle panel and put all the wiper stuff back. I decided to give the scuttle area a lick of paint too. I had removed the sound deadening a while back and didnt clean it up as thought the panel would cover it up..

No fancy stuff here, no cleaning/prep, primer or lacquer. All you need is one idiot with a can of paint.. job jobbed.

Next up was to tidy some wiring up from inside the car. After removing things, I have been left with looms that go to nothing. It seems that the car doesnt like having some of them removed so had to find a way around this.

I give you exibit A, the rain sensitive wiper module. It seems if you unplug it, or even unplug the loom from back of fuse box, it means all bar one of your wiper settings dont work, not helpful. As a quick fix for this, I just shortend the loom Wink

Ta-da

I then covered in electrical tape and tucked nicely behind dash above fuse box.

So with that loom cut down, and loom for interior light etc gone, I could remove this from the car Smile

This was more of a tidying as opposed to weight saving, but every little helps I guess.

Buy a soldering iron, some solder and a few metres of thin heatshrink. Will be neater and more reliable. I can just see those chocolate blocks getting tugged by something else you shove behind the dash. Do it right once.

    Nothing really mate Sad

I've bought a house so every penny I have has gone on that to be honest. Car has been sorn'd and sat on my driveway. Aim to start getting some bits done in the near future. Get it fixed and ready for some track action Smile

It's not ideal, but enough to get it working. I will be doing it properly at some point. Will add it on my list of things to do.

Really need to get some work done on this. Looking to enter into a sprint championship, so really need to get things sorted.

    Jobs to do:

    - Rebuild spare beam (and hopefully fit uprated parts to said beam, need money to buy these..)
    - Fit new GrpN engine mounts to stop my engine flapping about. (fear that mount cradle is f**ked..)
    - Fit battery relocation kit and killswitch to get rid of heavy battery in engine bay

    - Find, buy and fit fire extinguisher...
