Busy rebuilding my gti6 engine with wossner low compression pistons. Just finished putting the pistons and crank back in the block, and torqued it all up and now I cant get the crank shaft to turn? It was turning ok with one piston in and then by the time they were all in it was very stiff, then I torqued everything up and it was extremly stiff, I managed to turn it one revolution, then left it overnight and this morning it wont turn at all. Ive tried turning it using the crankshaft pulley nut with a socket on and a ratchet but I dont want to risk putting any more force on it for fear of snapping the bolt. Is this normal? Thanks in Advance for any help |

Sounds like you have an incorrectly sized bearing in there, I've seen it once before. But yes as the man says, pm rich w! ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! My Budget track engine build thread! Now appearing at a Trackday near you!! |

No, it's not normal. You should have put the crank in, fitted the main bearing caps and made sure the crank turned freely, torqued the caps down and checked again. If all was ok, then go about installing the pistons and rods, and after you install each one and torque it up see if you turn the crank freely. When you put one in and then you can't turn it freely anymore you know which one is causing the issue. As Jeffers says it could be an incorrectly measured bearing which is giving you trouble. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Should measure the running clearances anyway with something like plastigauge. If you undo all the bearing caps should soon free again? If so means tight bearings ________________________________________ 230 hp 2.1 16v XU 205 rallye on jenveys Project thread here309 3dr K20 Type R |

It's most likely that you have the main bearing caps the wrong way round, I did this myself and had the same problem. Number one cap or number 5 cap is'nt marked and if you start in the wrong order they all are wrong. Try them the other way round in 180 degreee order 1-5 to how you have them now. (One of them will be very obvious where it goes, but there is the possibility to get it wrong with the rest.)________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. That's an interesting theory Jim...I take it Damon, that you lubed the journals and shells up before you installed them with something like graphogen paste or similar? ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Thanks for all the help guys, Turns out the crank was free when I stripped it down It was the big ends that were tight. Turns out when the guy had my pistons and rods when he was reboring the block hes had a play with the rods and put 3 of the end caps on the wrong way. Put them back the right way, they line up, torqued everything up and hey, the crank spins fine again!! Now I just need a new piston ring to replace the one ive now snapped! Great day eh!! |
