about a quid's worth of resistors.

It does work but be careful not to burn out the chip with the heat from the soldering iron. Smile

I'm guessing this is what you did to mine to get the rev counter working?

I had no idea what to do with the cable thing I should you in my car. Crazy

Yeah its exactly what i did with yours. Im not up for titting about soldering in these loom things to every coil, when there is a far easier and neater solution!

I'm sure the PCB on the rev counter converts a digital signal to a anolog signal for it to work, cut the resistor/diode out and you keep the digital signal, I know this works on Omex ECU 600 ECU's but not on the Motronic of the 8v Turbo's.

All you need to do to get the tacho working is add a link wire on the pcb of the tacho like in the picture below (white wire is the link wire)

Dont solder it directly to pin 1 of the chip or you run the risk of frying the chip.

Agreed. Easier is best and less wiring too. Cool

Also, If you solder the wire on the component side of the PCB, you don't need to remove the needle and risk f@cking up the tacho calibration.

A little more happened today, managed to extend the heater matrix pipes a little and got the cooling sytem to hold water (which was nice), ran it up for half an hour and everything looks fine, slowly starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Things to finish-

Sort the speedo drive out, find the one that take a cable. (any clues as to what the part number is for the bit i need, think its a dt part)
Solder in the wire for the rev gauge
Fit the solid rear engine mount into the casing
Fit the o/s drive shaft
Build up the front.
Fit the 306 battery box/ecu tray.

A good half a days work if i could get the time to spend on it.

Happy now all the lifters have filled with oil and its stopped tapping (always a slight worry in the back of your mind)

Carl

Carl , did my effort at a cooling system diagram come in handy?

The part number for the dual speed sensor should be 6160 24.

Its off the early 306's, s16 ect...

mechanical_repairs"]Well the day is getting close to the car being finished, had a really good session with it today and managed to get the engine in (yay)

Lining it up to fit, it does look like it wont fit-

A bit closer, to me to you-

Lining it up to the engine and gearbox mount, had a little mishap with this when i decided to put the gearbox stud in the wrong hole in the gear box, it made the clutch arm hit the bottom of the battery tray, felt a bit of a tit when i realised what i had done.

A bit further in, as you can see it is sitting happily on the mounts, just hope it clears in all the necessary places-

Well as you can see the lump is in and guess what i am chuffed to bits as all the places people struggle with i seem to have been lucky, its close to the master cylinder but the exhaust and the front panel are fine (dont worry the master cylinder is going to be replaced, and sohas the fuel filter nowLOL)-

Well up up up, car goes up on the ramp and i fit the subframe, i had to say finding all the bolts was a mission, i had forgot which ones were which, just got to fit my shiney new sump, yes i know but you could'nt leave it looking like it is nowLOL-

Well thats about as far as i can go now, just fitted all the subframe and ancillaries, bolted all the driveshafts back in and put the wheels back on, it was great to see the car standing on its own feet again-

Its a shane the inlet manifold is covered up by the front panel but ho hum, all thats left to do now is get it all wired up and connect the coolant hoses, managed to put all the fuel lines on and have just fitted the bonnet too. From the bay looking like this-

To this-

Hi Carl,

Looks great, polo would be proud, LOLLOL

watch this space for when i start sorting my, 92 graphite grey, non sunroof out with the GTI 6 engine.
At the mo the old engine is out and im slowly sorting out painting the bay out etc.
Iv got the 309 rear beam sorted and refurb i just need to put it together and paint it me self. Iv also got 2 put my newish dash to put in as the original one looks more grey than the ph2 black.
This 205 will be finished hopefully by summer next year, and will be totally MINT, the only thing it wont have for a while is a full respray.
I also have a rare 86 ph1 205 GT im also slowly doing up, alot of rust but it a solid car as it passed another mot recently, buying it and stuff it needed has only cost me

Hi Carl,

What kind of exhaust manifold you using ?
Im thinking of cutting out the bulhead so i can use the original manifold, then reweld it up, for my conversion.
Have you used the ph1 gear cable from the 205 ?

Cheers George

A pic of it fitted to the lump, its angle is slightly tighter to the back of the block-
