Hi where is the best place to get the o-ring for the bottom hose that goes in to the radiator, just phoned up my local pug dealer and they said it was £64.

Thanks

you'll get it from peugeot for about £3 iirc.

I'd bet £64 was not for the bottom hose even, as they are only £29.

yup, there's 3 hoses for a 6 dependent on age, though the later 2 are the same each end and use the same o-ring (with the steel wire clip in the rad), just different moulding and clips in the wheelarch, also cheaper Big grin

taking the old hose would be better, as the o-rings are quite close in size.

you mean they come from warehouse to dealer in packs of ten and they don't want them on the shelf so they try and make you buy all of them.

Particularly if it's the early type without the metal clip I usually put a bit of silicone round it as 1 it helps it slide in easier and 2 it will help make a better seal as their always a weak point to be honest.

I hate it when people do that as it makes it an utter c**t to remove.

not needed if you use a new hose/o-ring.

Better with 'red rubber grease' keeps the seals supple despite the changes in temperature.

That seal is deffo under a quid, I bought 2 recently.

Having just suffering enduring pain with this pathetic arrangement, I was meticulous in the rebuild of it the last time and it seems ok atm.

There are subtle differences in the lower hoses, I thought I had a picture. The 02 Xsara hose I had inadvertently fitted had much shallower prongs, with a much less pronounced shoulder for the metal spring clip to sit against. I replaced this with my original 99 Rallye hose, which i'd wire brushed to remove all corrosion from. I fitted a new genuine rubber seal from Peugeot, which was a nice snug fit off the car. It took some leverage to fit when on the car but it went in nicely, and the clip fitted fine.

I had, of course, disconnected the hose from its two carrier clips on the inner wing and had pulled it from the connector on the back of the engine, ensuring no undue influence.

I concur with Mei that no lube is needed, I can only envisage it making things worse - that seal will find it's own snug fit. Be careful that it is a good fit on the pipe, else it only serves to roll over when being inserted.

I would suggest the use of the red rubber grease when fitting this though - makes it slide in much easier and avoids damaging the seal, which you really don't want as you'll only find out it's damaged when it leaks after you start the engine. Doh
