also, the battery symbol on the dash is on once engine is started. Ive checked the 30a fuse and changed the green relays round, but no luck.

any ideas what to poke, wiggle or hit with a hammer would be much appreciated.

its a phase 3 gti btw

When mine had the above it was blowing a fuse constantly - i would suggest you are checking the wrong fuse. There is a lot on that circuit but i'm sure its a 15A as i recall trying a 20 when i was fault finding.

The item at fault will almost certainly be the blue relay in the tailgate for the rear wiper. It will be green on the terminals.

Edit: Fuse 28 iirc If it's blown, unplug the rear wiper relay before replacing it or it'll just pop again as the wiper tries to start. Solution is a replacement 2nd hand relay/motor + relay.

spot on my mate, sure enough, fuse 28 gone, removed relay in rear wiper, replaced fuse, got me windows back which is useful because my air cons hasn't worked since i brought it Big grin
